Car Paint and Restoration of Mitsubishi 3000 GT

Well here's my newest project. Car paint and auto body work still ahead on my 1992 Mitsubishi 3000 GT . Got it from a high school young man . He has put used heads on it and gave up on the timing. So going to take the heads off cause the rear is leaking water and see what i find. Have a few tips and pictures of the timing marks further into the site which should be helpful. Had the engine in and out twice so have a few tips on slipping one back in. Was much easier the second time around as this was the first time playing around with one of these 3000 GTs.

Engine is rebuilt now so have started wet sanding and doing a little body work on it now . Always liked these cars . Want to do a dual turbo charged all wheel drive one though. This rare Mitsubishi 3000 GT only has 87,000 miles and is in good shape. Replaced a CV Boot and the lug nut studs and finally took it out for a trial run. Fun car and handles like a dream with plenty of power even without the turbos.

A few places to smooth out and a quick paint job. So far has ran just fine. Didn't even take my tools on the first run. Not bad for not even having a book on this guy and my first one. Heck my buddies up at the corvette and tech shops up town don't even want to mess with these over head double cams but i've been building these overhead cams since my 1979 VW Rabbit

Now if I could put web pages together like I can put these engine puzzles together I might actually sell something. Maybe build a sports car for one of these so called guuuuuaRoooos for a little guidance. Want to build them cauz I want to not because I have to. Now this is not a little fart can car. This is a nice classic sports touring fast car. There is a couple of kids down the street with the fart cars. Think I'll pull in front of their house and smoke the tires just for shits and grins. Cool that they're into cars though.

Sports Car Restoration

Moven the 3000 GT along. Had to pull the engine and replace the crank with one I hunted down. Running great now so need to do a little more sanding now. Thats cool though.........a change of pace.
Could have built 5 Cavaliers and flipped them on craigslist for as much time as I have in this damn Mitsubishi. These are nice touring cars. Stop on a dime and even without the turbo chargers this has plenty of guts. Look at that engine it's as fat as a 426 Hemi engine with the double overhead cams. Cool system with the four valves really can breath.
This is why I haven't been working on my marketing. Kicks my butt sometimes but get them running. Lot a parts but a cool engine.

3000 GT restoration

Well finally got started on the Mitsubishi and have it running smooth now. I started a little auto body work and wet sanding it now in prepperation for the paint job. Body is rust free and in great shape overall for as old as this classic is. Was a little banged up on the back driver side bumper but not a very hard hit.You are welcome to follow along on the painting of the 3000 GT as I will document with a lot of pictures and tips just as I did on the engine rebuild. Well the way i learned about worken on these sports cars years ago was just to start reading and you will figure it out. Here is a couple of books to start with helping you learn how to paint your car (Motorbooks Workshop)

Just start reading and talk it over with your auto paint store clerk. He should be able to give you a few tips also. I hope some of this helps you move your project along and saves you some time. Now go out to the garage and get on it. Time to swell up thoes fingers and do a little knuckle busten. Shade tree Daddy........
